If you’re a science-fiction fan than you are most-likely a fanboy of Ridley Scott. As the director of the original Alien and Blade Runner, Mr. Scott treats science-fiction with respect and integrity. So when it was recently announced that Ridley would be directing a new Alien movie, there was much cause for celebration. Would it be a sequel? A prequel? A remake?

It will be a prequel.

In the words of Ridley Scott, who was at the London Film Festival yesterday, “It’s a brand new box of tricks. We know what the road map is, and the screenplay is now being put on paper. The prequel will be a while ago. It’s very difficult to put a year on Alien, but if Alien was towards the end of this century, then the prequel story will take place thirty years prior. I never thought I’d look forward to a sequel, but a prequel is kind of interesting. I’m looking forward to doing that.”

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan releases this week, which should make fans going through withdrawal quite happy. The Plan, directed James Olmos, attempts to fill in fill in gaps as it relates to the Cylons, specifically the story of Kavil. Unfortunately, The Plan is not a strong movie, lacking a central narrative thread. It plays out like a retrospective of key Battlestar events, doesn’t really shed light on anything, is disjointed and without purpose. Not a great review, sorry to say. On the upside, the special-effects have never been better, easily the best technical work of the series.

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan is available on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Monty Python: Almost The Truth is the best documentary ever created about the British comedy group Monty Python. Stretching six glorious hours, every member is interviewed, memories are recalled and tons of things you never new are revealed. This documentary, made by the son of Terry Jones, goes in-depth on how the group formed, what their lives were like prior to Monty Python, their inspirations, battles with the BBC, how George Harrison of the Beatles financed The Holy Grail because he wanted to see the movie, and on and on and on. No Monty Python fan should be without this great documentary in their library.

Battlestar Galactica Cast to Appear on Letterman – Plus Season 4 News

TheSciFi channel has confirmed the rumor that the cast of Battlestar Galactica will be appearing on the Late Show With David Letterman, earmarked for a presentation of the Top Ten List.
Appearing on the show will be Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer (yummy), Grace Park (ditto), Michael Hogan, Aaron Douglas and Lucy Lawless.
Set your DVR’s for this Wednesday, March 19, and don’t forget (how could you?), season 4 launches on April 4, though back-to-back half-hour specials will be debuting the week before, on March 28.
The DVD set for season 3 finally arrives tomorrow, so late-comers have only a few weeks to get up to speed before season 4 kicks off.
In other Battlestar news, Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune recently interviewed Galactica producer Ron Moore and came away with some interesting factoids. Such as?

I asked Moore about the rumor that Joss Whedon had been tentatively lined up to direct one of the final episodes of “Battlestar.” Moore confirmed that “Buffy” creator Whedon, a big fan of “Battlestar,” very much wanted to direct a “Battlestar” episode, but it looks as though he probably will not be able to do so, thanks to his commitment to a new Fox series, “Dollhouse.” “He really wanted to do it, but I’m dubious that it will work out,” Moore said.

In regards to the ugly rumor that SciFi may hold the final 10 episodes of season 4 for up to a year (please God no):

Moore has no idea when the final 10 episodes of the 20-episode fourth season will be shown. The show’s cast and crew will be shooting episodes until June, and it’ll take until at least fall to finish post-production on the last batch of “Battlestar” outings.

Sigh.
Head on over to theChicago Tribune for more interesting tidbits and a full-blown interview.
