Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Morgan who is no doubt paid an enormous sum of money to get just about everything wrong, is actually copping to a few mistakes in his predictions for 2009.

Mr. Pachter predicted a 7% rise in sales during November.

Reality: 8% decline.

“…It should have been evident that a slowdown was coming, but many observers (including us) were lulled into the belief that the video game software business was recession-proof. Compounding our error was the belief that Wii sales would never slow, and that the music genre could continue to grow.”

“Wii hardware unit sales are down a staggering 28% through November. Even though combined PS3 and Xbox 360 sales are actually UP 5% this year, in absolute terms, the three consoles have sold almost 14% fewer units than in the prior year.”

Let me be on record as despising Deepak Chopra. Man is a charlatan with expensive jewel-rimmed glasses who loves to drone on and on about souls and quantum mechanics and healing and blah blah blah buy my new book because I speak with an accent and that means I have some kind of deep connection with the truth of the universe and oh yeah my son always hung out with Michael Jackson and nothing sexual ever happened so Michael Jackson is a creative genius who bettered the world….and…all skeptics are bad.

That last part appears in so many words within a new editorial written by Deepak himself.

The editorial goes on and on about how skeptics are bad for the world and, amazingly, bad for science, claiming one false fact after another, like these few gems:

Most of my stinging darts come from skeptics. Over the years I’ve found that ill-tempered guardians of scientific truth can’t abide speculative thinking.

Wow, 99.9% of science is based on skepticism of a held belief and the willingness to explore something new, unless you’re a creationist, which accounts for that last .1%

Since the skeptics who write venomous blogs trust in nothing, I imagine that God will outlive them.

Someone wake up in a bad mood today? You can imagine it all you want. Produce evidence for God and a soul, hell, produce a reason why either would exist, all I’ll join your “imagination” bandwagon.

No skeptic, to my knowledge, ever made a major scientific discovery or advanced the welfare of others. Typically they sit by the side of the road with a sign that reads “You’re Wrong” so that every passerby, whether an Einstein, Gandhi, Newton, or Darwin, can gain the benefit of their illuminated skepticism.

Well, now that just takes the cake. Every single one of these people would hate Deepak’s guts. All of them were skeptics. All of them fought an established system, much hate and ever death threats for their research.
