New Graphic Novel Depicts Republicans as Zombies

Zombies are the new salt; you just add them to anything and, so goes the theory, everything is improved. How else to explain the ongoing explosion of zombie-related material flooding theaters, television and bookstores.  Now, the Boom Town imprint has opted to convert various Republicans into zombies as a response to the recent dust-up involving Captain America.

Not familiar with happened with Captain America? In short, the most recent issue of Captain America depicted a scene involving the newly formed Tea Party movement; a scene that has infuriated the group, ultimately leading to an apology from Marvel head-honcho, Joe Quesada:

“There was zero discussion to include a group that looked like a Tea Party demonstration,” he said, according to ComicBook.com. “There was no thought that it represented a particular group.”

The writer of the comic, Ed Brubaker, told Fox News that he did not write the message on the sign.

“I don’t know who did it, probably someone who thought it was funny,” Brubaker wrote in an e-mail. “I didn’t think so, personally. That’s the sign being changed to something more generic for the trade reprint, because I and my editor were both shocked to see it.”

So offended was Boom at this apology, that they decided to make their new zombie book, Repuglicans:

Wait, there's a typo right in the title, there's a G where the...OHHHHhhh....

No release date is given, though Repuglicans will be 130-pages and priced at $15. How much longer till we see Demoguts?

Horror Comic Night and Fog Headed for the Movies

A little-known comic from Studio 407 called Night & Fog has been purchased for a movie deal with producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy heading the project. Want to feel any good will towards this project evaporate? These are the producers behind the forgettable Superman Returns and the awful Constantine. Perhaps they’ll figure out how to make a good movie on the 3rd attempt.

Night & Fog sounds like its really stretching the boundaries: “…revolves around an infectious mist unleashed on a military base that transforms its victims into preternatural creatures of the night. But when the survivors try to kill them, they adapt and change into something even more horrific and unstoppable.”

Yawn.

Does the Kick-Ass Trailer Deliver on Hype?

Hype has been building for the super hero movie Kick-Ass, which is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Mark Millar. Those who have seen screenings claim the movie is awesome and really delivers the goods, but this newly released trailer just leaves me wanting. Feel and looks a little corny, but I’m willing to keep an open-mind and see how it evolves.

The Science of the Watchmen

The New Scientist has posted an interesting article that fans of Watchmen should find interesting. It covers the many scientific theories found in the graphic novel and movie, from teleportation to alternate realities.

From the New Scientist:

Even Manhattan has his limits, however: he can’t see into his own future, thanks to a flood of tachyons – theoretical particles that move faster than the speed of light, and therefore travel backwards in time. This blindness is one of the factors that persuades him to abandon his fatalism and intervene in humanity’s affairs – along with a meditation on the astonishing fact of life’s existence (specifically, his former girlfriend’s) that sounds a lot like a rediscovery of the anthropic principle.

Humanity certainly needs the help. As in our own world, the hunt is on for a source of energy that will meet the world’s growing need for clean, safe power. To make matters worse, the world stands on the brink of nuclear annihilation – a threat that’s considered more remote in our own world, but certainly hasn’t gone away.
