Super Bowl Ads

Hate me if you must, but I am not a football fan at all. It just holds no interest for me. I used to have a need to sit through every Super Bowl though. Why? I loved watching all the multi-million dollar advertisements.

Now however, thanks to Al Gore and whoever invented TiVo, I don’t have to put up with all the shirtless obese men painted in their team’s colors, or the nonstop grunting from amplified helmet mics anymore. Using my DVR I can just fast forward between commercials afterward, or even better, find the websites that let me select exactly which ones I want to watch and when. If you feel the same way about the sport, or even if you are a pigskin fan who just may have missed an ad or two during some congratulatory chest-bumping, these are the best three sites I came across this year:

Spike.com/superbowl

Hulu.com/adzone

CBSSports.com

Enjoy! Oh, and before you head off to voluntarily watch the advertisements from the big game that CBS will be using to pay its bills (each 30 sec. spot was 2.5 mil a pop!), we humbly request you consider clicking on an ad or two here every so often. It’s a small something we’d be very appreciative of and would help us continue to feed the habits of Info Addicts everywhere.

Dynamic Ticket Prices Coming to Live Sports Events?

The Dallas Stars hockey organization are leading the charge with a new concept in ticket prices: dynamic. That means tickets for games no one cares about, say Dallas against some cellar-dwelling opponent, will be cheaper than a higher profile game.  If this idea works, I can easily see it migrating to all other sports. Why we are expected to pay the same amount for Angels versus Yankees as we are Angels versus Kansas City Royals is beyond me.

Here’s how the Dallas Stars plan on implemenating this new tactic:

The Stars have entered into a partnership with Qcue, an Austin-based software company, to introduce dynamic ticket pricing on single-game tickets in the upper level of American Airlines Center.

The team is using Qcue’s algorithm-based software application to integrate elements of airline pricing into the team’s single-game ticket pricing for the upper level, allowing real-time market conditions and consumer demand to set the right price at the right time. The application is designed to respond to changing conditions related to each individual game.

Similar to airline pricing, the best prices are often found early. Dynamic pricing will provide fans with great prices starting from the initial on-sale on Sept. 12. The upper level single-game ticket prices can go up or down based on a variety of factors, including league standings, opposing team, star players, day of the week, and real time supply and demand. Dynamic pricing for upper level tickets will continue all season. Fans will be able to check out the current prices at any time at DallasStars.com.

Nintento Wants Patent for Wii Football Controller

Posted by Jack Devore | September 2nd, 2009 |  No Comments »

Nintendo has filed a patent for a new Wii peripheral that is a soft, football-shaped controller for use in future pigskin games like Madden.

I predict a lot of broken lamps in your future.

From PhysOrg:

The football controller is designed to simulate movements during football games, such as running, jumping and throwing. The football is moved quickly from side to side to dodge opponents, and raising the ball simulates a jump. Making jogging motions with the ball is supposed to determine the running speed. Other options are available on the remote, which fits into a slot on the ball.

The football also simulates throwing, of course. The player grasps the ball and makes a throwing movement. The direction and power of the throw in the game are determined by the power, angle, force and pitch of the throwing motion. Fortunately, the football has a strap, which should (with any luck) stop players throwing the ball at the TV screen!
