Ronald Moore, genius behind the rebooting of Battlestar Galactica, as well as writer/producer of Star Trek: Next Generation, has signed a "trilogy" deal with Tom Cruises' new studio, United Artists. What's interesting here is the verbiage trilogy as opposed to three-picture deal, which one would normally see.
There is zero information available as to what this project may be, save that it's science-fiction. Since it's a trilogy, I think it's safe to say it's based on a series of novels, either current or classic. Given Moore's track-history of reinventing old shows, methinks Moore is going to reinvent a classic science-fiction trilogy.
Any guesses? Fincher has been attached to Asimov's Foundation, but that is languishing in development hell. Perhaps Robert Heinlein will be getting his due with Stranger in a Strange Land, Time Enough For Love?
With Hyperion now in the works and Dune being redone, it appears the time for quality science-fiction may be upon us, now that digital-effects have made the impossible possible. But please, don't dumb down the source material in the process.

Setting aside the fact that today should be a national holiday in honor of Battlestar Galactica's fourth-season premier and yet we're all stuck at work on this holiest of days, Salon has whipped up an excellent guide to all things Galactica that may tide you over.
It's geared towards people who may not know much about the show, its characters, or relentless plot twists and serves as primer for entering the fourth season. While it will get you up to speed, this is not how I recommend you tackle Galactica for the first time. I urge you to start from the beginning by watching the original mini-series, followed by the first three seasons. DVR season 4 and watch it when you've seen everything else. Thank me later.
From Salon:
Read More (Source: Salon)Three seasons later, "Battlestar Galactica" has become one of TV's smartest series. It has won a Peabody Award, made the Sci Fi Channel a semireputable cable outlet and revolutionized science fiction on television. It has proved that the genre, when liberated from the body-hugging Lycra jumpsuits and staid dialogue that have plagued most post-"Trek" science fiction series, can be a vehicle for both scathing political commentary and genuine pathos. The network recently greenlighted a prequel spinoff series called "Caprica," and on Friday, April 4, "Battlestar" returns to Sci Fi after a yearlong hiatus for its fourth and final season.

I make no secret of my unbridled love for Battlestar Galactica. Great acting, superb plots, top-notch special-effects, twists and turns, but above all else: excellent dialog.
With the Season 4 premiere inching its way towards us, I thought I'd collect some of my favorite quotes from the first three seasons, presented in order of greatness. Beg to differ? Did I miss something obvious? Let me know in the comments and share some of your favorites.

And if you need time, Saul, well, you take all the time you want. But I gotta run a ship. The last thing I need is a one-eyed drunk sitting down here sowing discontent and disobedience. So I'll tell you once again, Saul. You can pick up that weapon and kill me...or you can get your ass back into your quarters, and not leave until you're ready to act like the man that I've known for the past thirty years.” --Commander Adama

Last night the cast of Battlestar Galactica presented the Top 10 List on the Late Show with David Letterman. Topic? 10 reasons to watch the new season of Battlestar Galactica. Result? Well, four of the top 10 aren't bad, the remaining six indicate the writer's strike may still be going on.

As season four of Battlestar Galactica crawls towards television screens, fans of the show, myself included, have been filled with both excitement and depression. We're excited at finally viewing the final chapters in the story, but fully understand there won't be any more after the run. Our lives will be hollow, indeed.
Well, the outlook for happiness got a shot in the arm, as the Sci Fi Channel has finally greenlighted "Caprica", the long-rumored prequel set 50 years before the events of Battlestar. Currently, the plan is to make Caprica into a two-hour pilot, which will hopefully lead into a full-blown series...assuming it doesn't suck.
