The Best Word Processors for Writers

Microsoft Word isn’t your only option when it comes to creative writing, nor are you stuck with OpenOffice as a free alternative. While both of these programs offers tons of features and options, its these very options and cumbersome layout that can get in the way of creative thinking. What a real writers needs is a stripped down word processor that just does the basics, freeing you to concentrate on nothing more than placing one word after another.

The following programs are the digital equivalent of manual typewriters, a device many of the top writers continue to swear by. Once you start writing with one of these you may never go back.
