Alright, the image is a little misleading since Bale doesn't actually play a robot, but I couldn't resist. Shooting has already begun for Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, but Christian Bale has now been confirmed to extend his role as John Connor through a trilogy of Terminator films. The BBC got the scoop at the Cannes Film Festival:

"Christian was our first choice and he's a big fan of The Terminator, so we're very lucky," Kubicek told the BBC at the Cannes Film Festival.

"But with Batman he's already done the whole franchise thing, so we weren't sure he'd respond."

Luckily, said Kubicek's business partner Derek Anderson, "he read the script and he loved it, so he's signed on for all three."

Bale of course has The Dark Knight opening in less than two months, but I guess he's not afraid of being the face of two franchises. The new Terminator flicks will focus on the war between man and machines, which we know from the previous films is ultimately won by rebels led by John Connor. No word yet on if Arnold Schwarzenegger will have any part in the films, but I'd say a cameo appearance is a safe bet.
