So you’ve finally decided to ditch that ancient brick you call a cellphone for something more technologically advanced. What to do with you old phone? Some people sell their old phones or simply give them away to friends and family. All well and good until you consider a recent study that shows a whopping 99% of recycled cellphones contain personal data about the previous owner, including videos, pictures, emails, mailing lists, bank info, addresses and other sensitive data.

“Our advice to consumers is to check with the recycling firm to confirm that all data will be removed,” he said. “If it doesn’t, then think twice before sending them your handset as your data could end up in the wrong hands.”

Want a free way to wipe all the data on your old phone clean? Then give Wireless Recycling a shot.
